LANGUAGE & LINGUISTICS IN MELANESIA

Journal of the Linguistic Society of Papua New Guinea ISSN: 0023-1959

LLM Vol. 37, 2019

Editor's Note

This is the International Year of Indigenous Languages, and LSPNG 2019 Conference in September will be a celebration of the beauty and unique diversity of the Tok Ples languages of Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific.

The first paper in this year's volume expounds on a new, unorthodox way of teaching linguistics at the University of Papua New Guinea. This paper, presented in July 2018 at the International Congress of Linguists (ICL20) in Cape Town, South Africa, contends that dialectical analysis provides students with a deeper understanding and appreciation of linguistic diversity.

Professor Karl Franklin explores the origins of the language name Kewa in our second publication this year.
